Humanities Focus: Chinese Language and Literature

The BA(HDT) is a programme that stands where two ways of thinking meet. I am grateful that the past four undergraduate years have opened for me a window through which to study humanistic questions with quiet and undivided attention in this bizarre digital era, while also learning to approach technology with a gaze at once careful, curious, and critical—to ask in what ways technology shapes our lives; to ask in what ways it shapes our society, environment, and spirits; and to ask how we, in turn, might use it to uncover meanings that traditional humanistic methods may leave untouched, and so find new vitality in the field of the humanities. To all the professors and friends I have met along this journey, thank you. I am glad that on this road I have never had to walk alone.

Momoko Iwama

Japan

First Class Honours

King's College London (Exchange, 2024-25 Semester 1)

Humanities Focus: Art History

The BA(HDT) programme has been an incredible journey for me. It offers me practical experiences and provides opportunities for me to interact with digital humanities professionals which expanded my horizons. One standout project was analyzing beauty standards through Vogue magazine using computational methods. HDT is the perfect fusion of technology and the humanities, equipping me with diverse career paths.

Humanities Focus: Art History

BA(HDT) is an awesome programme that truly broadened my horizons by bridging digital humanities research with cutting-edge tech developments central to our society, such as the geopolitics of semiconductors and data centres. This journey wouldn't have been the same without our passionate and supportive professors, who always guided us with incredible expertise. The curriculum allowed me to explore my passion for the humanities while gaining highly practical digital skills and literacy. Thanks to this solid foundation, I now feel fully prepared to pursue a digital-focused career and take on my next steps!

Siang Lian

Malaysia

First Class Honours

Humanities Focus: Translation

Studying in the HDT programme is like an adventure filled with excitement, uncertainty, and cool stuff. You gain almost similar experience to a regular arts bachelor, with extra technological seasoning that spices your study up and provides you the future-readiness that makes your portfolio prettier! Doing my projects in HUDT courses was enjoyable; it is like equipping yourself with your favourite items and tools (digital methods) to fight the boss (humanities topic). Kudos to the teaching team and management team for making this programme fun and intriguing, especially those sem break gathering events!
